Does it seem like you always get a blemish in the same spot? There is a reason for this…
The pore may be damaged so it keeps getting re-infected. This is especially common for those who pick. (hint, hint) Picking blemishes loosens the lining of the cell and that causes the clogged oil to go deeper into the skin and that creates an inflammatory reaction.
If you use a drying spot treatment (toothpaste and most over-the-counter spot treatments) this will only dry out the surface infection of the skin. The bacteria is still lurking underneath and will eventually come to the surface again.
Contrary to what some may believe, the steam does not open your pores. Pores are not windows, they do not open and close. What the steam does do is soften the hardened oil in the pore. The trick though, and this is the most important part, is to lock in the moisture the steam has created. If you don’t, once the steam is turned off, the oil dries up and you are back where you started.
I always apply Hyaluronic Acid Serum and a moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated and soft. This is great for the skin but will also make the extractions easier. My clients do not leave red or irritated.
The American Academy of Dermatology currently recognizes Salicylic Acid (Beta Acid) as one of the most effective agents available for acne skin by significantly reducing build up of dead skin cells through a gentle exfoliation process. Beta Acid used in conjunction with Le Mieux patent pending ingredient is a potent tool to achieve dramatic clearing of acne lesions and prevent changes within the follicle associated with the acne process.
Are you having trouble with breakouts? Most topical treatments only work on the surface, temporarily getting rid of the problem. You need something that will get under the skin and kill the bacteria and infection so it goes away for good! And, it’s oil soluble, meaning it can dissolve into oil-clogged pores to remove buildup. I love this product because it is effective and easy to use. Great for cystic acne too!
Even if you think you are doing everything right…cleanse, tone, moisturize. And doing this day and night. Maybe even adding in some extra serums or an eye cream. You are still missing something. Something that can make all the difference in the world to get you the skin you want: exfoliation!
Our skin naturally shed billions of skin cells a day but when this starts to slow down or even stop due to sun damage, oily skin, skin disorders, etc., the result is undeniable…dry or flaky, dull and lifeless skin. That can lead to even bigger problems: blemishes, clogged pores, wrinkles and uneven skin tone (one of the biggest giveaways of age!).
When you exfoliate regularly you can rid yourself of a lot of these problems or at least keep them at a minimum. And here is the best reason for you to start exfoliating today: You Will Look Instantly Younger! Yes, you read that correctly. 🙂 Compare this to a pedicure. Before, your feet are dry, scaly and rough but immediately after they are smooth and unwrinkled! Of course, the two are not the same but the results are (just don’t scrub as hard on your face 🙂 ).
Regular facials are key to keeping your skin young and fresh. What can be done in a treatment room by a professional, cannot be done at home, but that being said, there is still plenty for you to do at home.
1. Use a Konjac Sponge. Gentle and effective. You can use this every other night with your cleanser. Quick and easy.
2. My 2nd recommendation would be a product from Skin Script. It has 2% retinol in it so you get great benefits from that (to name a couple…helps to stimulate collagen and hyularonic acid- main components that give your skin firmness and fullness). It can also be used as a mask. Leave on for 10 minutes to get the full use of the retinol.
Microdermabrasion comes up a lot in my treatment room but I actually don’t do it anymore. I can but I don’t. It’s not my favorite treatment and I have something (Dermafiles) that can replace it that is better. Plus, there is Ultrasonic Exfoliation to add to the mix. I have been using ultrasonic for quite some time and I love it! Below I will compare the two so you know the difference and why you may want one or the other or both!
Microdermabrasion has been around since the 90’s. It removes dead skin cells, evens skin tone, stimulates circulation and give the skin a smooth, youthful appearance. Best suited for those with thicker skin because of the suction/vacuum method that pulls and tugs at the skin. Thin, reddened and sensitive skin cannot handle this treatment. It will make conditions worse or cause more issues like broken capillaries. I feel that microdermabrasion does more harm than good.
Anyone who has received a facial from me knows how much I love this tool. I use it in every facial (unless I am doing some other deeper exfoliation-although still rare) because I have seen the benefits and I know how amazing it is for the skin. I can’t offer this as a “special” facial. I think everyone should have this used on their face in my treatment room.
How Ultrasonic Exfoliation Works:
Liquid is applied to the skin (skin needs to be wet) to loosen surface dead skin and the spatula that is activated by ultrasonic sound waves (28,000 vibrations per second) lifts the dry skin cells off the skin. At the same time, the liquid (I use a beneficial liquid for your skin type) is being infused deep into the skin to allow the new, healthy cells to get hydrated. This means that this method is safer, better and the results will last longer.
Since I always start with an enzyme before I use this tool, you will get even better results because it will be able to exfoliate even deeper. It can also be used to clear clogged pores and get out dirt, old oil and blackheads.
