Why do Estheticians Use Steam?

Contrary to what some may believe, the steam does not open your pores. Pores are not windows, they do not open and close. What the steam does do is soften the hardened oil in the pore. The trick though, and this is the most important part, is to lock in the moisture the steam has created. If you don’t, once the steam is turned off, the oil dries up and you are back where you started.

I always apply Hyaluronic Acid Serum and a moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated and soft. This is great for the skin but will also make the extractions easier. My clients do not leave red or irritated.

What YOU Do Makes a Difference!

I talk about Le Mieux serums all the time. On Facebook, my blog and especially in my treatment room with my clients. I think they are amazing, super effective and inexpensive. (You do not have to spend a fortune to have good skin!)

Here is a picture of the results of using 3 different serums and grape seed oil (I do think the oil had an effect on the skin tone and texture).

Are OTC Skin Care Products Making Our Skin Worse?

Sometimes I wonder if this is true. Every client that gets a facial from me is asked about their skin care routine. I ask specifically what products and brands are used so I see what the skin care is doing to skin. I’m starting to see a pattern with certain brands that makes me want to tell everyone to STOP using them. I am also seeing a pattern with OTC brands in general. This is why I am questioning whether or not they are purposely trying to hurt our skin so that we have to keep buying more products. When you walk into a Nordstrom or a Target and stare at all their products, it’s overwhelming. How do you choose? How do you know what is right for your skin?

Acne products seem to dry out the skin. Then, you have to buy products that will help the dryness. When does it stop? Why can’t these OTC products just fix our skin without damaging it? Oil-free is not always best. Moisturizers don’t penetrate the skin. Toners should not have alcohol. Do you even know why you use a toner? Dark circles are almost impossible to get rid of because they are usually hereditary. Those white bumps (milia) under your eyes that never go away are there because you’re dehydrated. Do you know how to get the proper hydration to the eye area?

I would LOVE to work in a Target one day and just stand in their skin care section and help people pick out their products. That would be amazing! Finding the right products and ingredients for my clients is one of my favorite parts of my job.

Yes, I do sell my own professional products but I believe in what I sell and I use it myself. If I could, I would do all of this for free. It kills me what is out there and how much we are all mislead. The amount of money we spend on products that we either don’t ever use or don’t work, is astounding.

So, what do you think? I want to know if you agree with me. I absolutely do not believe it costs a fortune to have good skin but it IS costing us a fortune.

Seriously. I love Grape Seed Oil!

I have been using grape seed oil on my face, neck, chest and hands consistently for over a month now. My skin has never felt smoother. The effects of this oil are really amazing! I suggest this to all my clients and I hope that they are using it because I know they will see the results just like I am. Plus, you can’t beat the price. Even if you don’t want to use it on your face, it is so great for your body. Neck, chest and hands are often neglected and they are show our age. Apply it everyday!

My Love/Hate Relationship with Yelp

I will start with why I love Yelp.

It has helped me build my business. Many of my clients have found me on there based on the reviews my amazing clients have written. It is a great way for people to learn about me and what I do and get objective opinions of my services. People are also able to search for me based on services they are looking for that they may not regularly be able to find.

Now I will tell you why I hate (probably too strong of a word but better for the title) Yelp.

It filters my reviews. I encourage my clients to write on Yelp and even offer incentives for their time and Yelp hides some of their comments. Now they say it is random or whatever but I am not convinced. It seems to happen when the person has only reviewed 1 place. It also seems to happen to businesses that don’t advertise with Yelp (I’ve heard about this from numerous people). This is disappointing. Now people are starting to say that they don’t want to bother writing a review because they assume their review will get filtered. One of my clients wrote an email to Yelp about her review and she never heard back. I also wrote to them with no response. I tried calling them but could not get to a live person. They do not want to talk to you…unless they call you to get your money to advertise! Very frustrating.

That all being said, I am still thankful for the site. I am happy that clients are able to find me and my business it able to grow. I only wish that Yelp wouldn’t filter the reviews. You are still able to read them, by the way, you just have to enter one of those “I’m not a robot” computer codes to do it (yes, it’s easy but I have found most people don’t take the time to do it).

Go to YELP to read my reviews…I have 12 reviews but 4 are filtered
